For the first time in Brazilian history, the national census has shown that the majority of the population is black or mixed race.

BREAKING! Huge Chevron oil spill/leak off coast of Brazil. Looks like a blowout similar to last year’s BP Gulf spill. Transocean is involved(!). 18 emergency ships have been deployed to the site. Chevron originally reported the oil was seeping from cracks in the sea-floor, but has back-tracked and stopped drilling operations. More soon.

NASA meets Brazilian Space Agency for cooperation
NASA administrator Charles Boulder (right, in photo above) is in Brazil for the signing of a cooperation among the US space agency and its Brazilian counterpart. Two agreements were signed today (10/27) to establish a partnership between both countries. In the first one, Brazil gets to collect and analyze all data from the Global Precipitation Measurement future group of satellites. The second agreement sets Brazil to take part in ozone layer studies.
The GPM mission was initiated by NASA and the Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency and has many international partners, like Brazil, India and France. It will provide rainfall data worldwide, including information on tropical cyclones and hurricanes.

To this day, “Brazil” one of my favorite films of all time. Depending on what day it is, it’s my #1 favorite film of all time. I generally love Terry Gilliam’s work, but this particular story and satirical commentary still resonate with me on a high level. And then, of course, there’s the production design. No other film really LOOKS like “Brazil”. Many try, all the time many try, but there’s no look this consistently dark and captivating.
