This page is still forever in progress. It’s a quick presentation of work I’ve done.
21st Century Style – this was a fashion event series and music compilation I created for the Enyce Clothing brand, now owned by Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs. Our CD was the most in-demand promo item of the year. Each volume (there were 5) had artists that were new, and usually, there was music never heard before. The series was a range of mix CDs (the Enyce brand mix was a double disc hosted by Bobbito Garcia) and downtown sound compilations, all given away at department stores like Bloomingdale’s and Macy’s with an Enyce purchase. We also got in store play at smaller independent boutiques across the country.
This music series was the first time most of the world had ever heard of John Legend. He was John Stephens then, an indie artist signed to a label owned by this producer who was determined to be a rapper — named Kanye West.
Fast forward to Fashion Week New York City, September 2003. We threw the illest party ever. Hosted by Kelis. DJ’ed by Sky Nellor. Opening act was Maya Azucena, followed by Anthony Hamilton, and then THE performance by John Legend and Kanye West together. If you weren’t in the house that night, have a look at what you missed:
Needless to say, everyone was pleased. Later on, Lady Enyce brand and one of my other clients, Trace Magazine, went on to present one of the more memorable Black Girls Rule parties:
